To celebrate the life and legacy of Nancy Reagan, who passed away at 94 on Sunday (March 6), people of the Internet are rushing to Change.org with a request that Fetty Wap’s “Trap Queen” be played at the funeral. Yes, you read that right.
The letter to the White House states that the hit song is perfect for the former First Lady as she had an “important legacy as being the most famous Trap Queen in American history.”
Fetty’s track praises the “Trap Queen,” a slang term that can be used endearingly to describe the quintessential stay-at-home wife and mother.
However, various other definitions of the term described on Urbandictionary.com include, “a girl who is dumb enough to risk her life guarding a trap house for her drug dealing boyfriend” and a loyal, respectful woman who is “both street smart & book smart.”
The petition — which was started by a man mysteriously named “David D.” — has already garnered nearly 3,000 signatures states the following:
“While her husband, Ronald Reagan, was linking up with Papi to flood the streets with narcotics, Nancy was on TV telling kids to ‘Say No To Drugs.’ Her infamous ‘anti-drug’ phrase encouraged strict laws on drug possession that led to a school-to-prison pipeline we’re still dealing with now. Blacks and Latinos went to jail in droves for possessing drugs her husband gave them. It was an incredible sleight of hand that would make any wannabe Trap Queen hide in shame for her inability to be as diabolical as Nancy.”
The petition closes with this final statement “So, to commemorate her contribution to the Trap, we’d love to have Fetty Wap perform “Trap Queen” at Nancy’s funeral. To usher her to a better place … where she’s probably cooking pies with her baby.”
The final sentence is an ode to actual lyrics from Fetty’s song. As of now, there has been no response from The White House.
