“Buffy the Vampire Slayer” actor Nicholas Brendon has struggled over the past few years to maintain sobriety, with stints in rehab dating back to 2003. And according to a Facebook post, Brendon will be checking in to a 90-day rehab facility in order to “continue #kickingdepressionintheballsack.”
After walking off of the set of the “Dr. Phil” show back in August 2015, Brendon returned to the show to confess that he needs some serious help managing his addiction, including confessing suicidal feeling and a suicide attempt in September.
Following the Dec. 1 appearance, Brendon pled guilty to a criminal mischief misdemeanor charge for allegedly choking his girlfriend in a hotel room back in late September, writes E!. Brendon was arrested after their argument turned physical, and the actor allegedly grabbed his girlfriend by the throat and threw her keys.
According to local paper the Albany Times-Union, if Brandon completes his 90-day rehab stint, he will avoid serving any jail time for the assault, says district attorney Karen Heggen. “Based upon our review of the facts and circumstances of this case, and after speaking with the victim, we believe justice was served,” says Heggen, and Brendon’s lawyer agrees, telling the Times-Union, “I think everyone agrees it was a fair disposition, including Nicholas.”
Brendon’s lawyer adds, “He is in a much better place than he was when he was charged in September. He seemed to me very pleased with his progress, and hopes to get his life back together.”
