One Direction released their latest single Friday (Oct. 16), titled “Perfect.” And pretty much the entire Internet regards it as the perfect shade for — or homage to — Taylor Swift.
Now it seems as though Styles has fired back with a song that resembles “Style” both musically and lyrically.
Both songs mention Styles and Swift’s midnight drives, which must have been quite the adventures — and the midnight drives and secret rendezvous verse is sung by Styles himself.
Then the chorus of “Perfect” actually says, “And if you’re looking for someone to write your breakup songs about / Baby, I’m perfect.” Writing breakup songs about people is actually something Swift is kind of famous for.
Then there’s the fact that the songs mash-up together … perfectly.
Fans on Twitter are having a field day with this new track.
During a radio interview Friday morning, Styles and bandmate Louis Tomlinson play coy about who the song is about.
“You always write about your own experiences and that’s where the inspiration comes from, no matter how loose that might be,” says Tomlinson.
“People take songs and three different people can think that it means three completely different things, so to be honest it translates to whoever just based on completely what they take from it,” Styles adds.
