Being a celebrity is weird on multiple levels, but one of those is the growing trend of them paying tribute to other celebs by getting tattoos. Sure, ink is popular these days — but if you got your buddy Fred’s face on your back, the next time you see the guy, your conversation might be a bit awkward.

Michael Jackson’s daughter Paris has revealed that she tattooed her father’s words on her forearm, which could be seen as a sweet tribute to her father. But as you’ll discover below, when celebs ink themselves with tributes to other celebs, it often ends badly — especially when they do it young.

Johnny Depp and Winona Ryder

Unfortunately, tattoos often remind us that something we once thought of as life-defining can fade away. Such was the case with the whirlwind, tabloid-friendly romance between Depp and his “Edward Scissorhands” co-star.

Young, beautiful and edgy, Winona and Johnny once seemed like the future of Hollywood — so much so that he had the words “Winona Forever” tattooed on his upper right arm. But forever came and went quickly, and after the couple broke up Depp’s tribute to Winona encountered a clever tattoo removal artist, who changed it to “Wino Forever.”

Megan Fox and Marilyn Monroe

The “Transformers” star had a tattoo of Marilyn Monroe’s face on her right arm, which seems ironic since both women became overnight sensations for embodying sensuality, but struggled with being taken seriously for their acting.

Maybe that’s why she had it removed in 2011, telling an Italian magazine that she thought the tat was bad juju. “I’m removing it. It is a negative character, as she suffered from personality disorders and was bipolar,” Fox said of her onetime inspiration. ‘I do not want to attract this kind of negative energy in my life.”

Ryan Cabrera and Ryan Gosling

Cabrera is a rocker who has dated Ashlee Simpson and Audrina Patridge, and appeared on “The Hills” for awhile. What’s amazing is that none of those things count as his worst decision, because he also likes to play a game called “tattoo roulette,” which resulted in a Ryan Gosling tattoo on his left leg. “We blindfold each other,” he told Teen.com of the game he plays with his pals. “You get to pick a tattoo for me, and I get to pick a tattoo for you. And [neither of us] gets to see it till they’re both done.” Wow, just wow.

Jaden Smith and Drake

Will and Jada’s son is never boring, that’s for sure. He has also made no secret over the years of his admiration for Drake, so maybe it kinda makes sense that he would tattoo the dude’s face on his chest? For his 17th birthday, Drake hung out with the actor/musician/Twitter poet, and Jaden was reportedly so moved by the evening that he capped it off with the tattoo. Drake has returned the favor by wearing a t-shirt with Jaden Smith’s face on it while walking the red carpet — which seems like a far safer expression of their mutual love.

James Franco and Emma Watson

Okay, this one was a fake. But it was easy to believe, because if anybody would get a neck tattoo of another celebrity who he wasn’t even dating, it would be James Franco. And if anybody deserves to have people tattooing her on their necks, it’s Emma Watson.
