Hollywood is in mourning right now, as details have begun to leak regarding the sale of Hugh Hefner’s Playboy mansion. Since 1971, the world’s biggest movie stars, athletes and other notables have splashed in its grotto, gazed upon its abundant wildlife and otherwise engaged in acts better left to the imagination.

From the annual “Midsummer Night’s Dream” party to charity functions and events celebrating such Hugh Hefner passions as jazz, boxing and cinema, the legendary estate has also hosted such classic pop culture moments as Eddie Murphy’s scene crashing a party in “Beverly Hills Cop II,” Weezer rocking out on the front lawn in their “Beverly Hills” video, and the hit reality series “The Girls Next Door.”

But the mansion will forever be best remembered for such attributes as the secret doors reportedly used to sneak in celebrities like Jack Nicholson and Warren Beatty, the steady calendar of alcohol-soaked parties, and the inevitable appearance of a smoking-jacketed Hef with a Bunny on each arm.

With that in mind, here are some vintage pictures of celebrities from the last few decades getting their party on. If some of them look a bit droopy-eyed, or some glances can be seen in the direction of a woman wearing nothing but body paint, let it be a nostalgic reminder of the end of an era.
