Chelsea and Rosie O'Donnell

Sad news for Rosie O’Donnell, whose daughter Chelsea has chosen to celebrate her 18th birthday by leaving the comedian/host and moving back in with her birth mother.

“Chelsea made a decision when she turned 18 that she wanted to go to her birth mother,” a representative for O’Donnell tells Us Weekly, confirming a TMZ report. “This was her choice.”

The move continues to escalate a difficult month for O’Donnell and her daughter. Chelsea went missing on Aug. 11 and caused O’Donnell to ask fans on Twitter to keep an eye out for her. Authorities eventually located Chelsea in a small New Jersey suburb, along with a 25-year-old man the teen reportedly met through Tinder and received nude photos from.

This month also saw O’Donnell being insulted in front of 24 million people at the first Republican presidential debate. When longtime nemesis and now-candidate Donald Trump was questioned about comments that various women were “fat pigs, dogs, slobs and disgusting animals,” he responded, “Only Rosie O’Donnell.” O’Donnell later tweeted: “Try explaining that 2 ur kids.”

Chelsea turned 18 on Aug. 24 and now plans to live in Wisconsin with her mother Deanna Micoley, who has claimed in the past that O’Donnell “stole” her daughter. O’Donnell and her ex-girlfriend Kelli Carpenter adopted Chelsea in 1997. O’Donnell later went on to adopt three other children and has one through artificial insemination.

According to TMZ, Micoley drove from Wisconsin to pick up Chelsea, and then the two of them drove back together. “Rosie advised Chelsea NOT to go with Deanna, but she went anyway,” says the site. “We’re also told Rosie has cut off Chelsea financially and has refused to turn over her birth certificate and social security card.”
