Exciting news for Sandra Bullock: People exclusively reports that the actress has officially adopted a second child, a daughter named Laila. The little girl, like Bullock’s 5-year-old son Louis, is from Louisiana, and is three and a half years old.
Bullock credits one person with the perseverance to make it happen: “Louis spearheaded this whole journey.”
This announcement comes after months of speculation that Bullock might be in the process of adopting another child. At the time, she denied the reports, saying “If I had a second adopted child, everyone would be hearing about it. I would be loud and clear and say ‘Yes, I have officially adopted a second child.’ Right now, Louis must be it.”
Now it seems that she was speaking very carefully, since she confirms to People that the process of fostering and adopting Laila took several years and was absolutely in the works over summer 2015.
That adoption wasn’t always easy, but Bullock worked through it over the course of three years. “I knew she was scared, and all I wanted was for her to know Louis and I weren’t going anywhere.” Now that they’re all living together, Bullock says she loves having a daughter as well as a son, describing the mix as “pink and glitter in the house mixed with Legos and Batmans.”
Even though the process took such a long time, Bullock is thrilled with her newly expanded family. “When I look at Laila, there’s no doubt in my mind that she was supposed to be here.”
