Steven Sheerer, the man Rosie O’Donnell’s daughter Chelsea was found with after being missing for a week, is being charged with endangering the welfare of a child and distribution of obscenity to a minor.
The 25-year-old man was arrested after O’Donnell gave authorities to check her daughter’s cell phone and police found “evidence of inappropriate communications over the last several weeks.”
Sheerer was jailed Friday (Aug. 21) in New Jersey night with a bail set at $40,000. An Ocean County Superior Court Judge has banned him from further contact with Chelsea O’Donnell or any of her family members.
If convicted, Sheerer faces up to five years in prison for each charge.
Authorities say that Sheerer initially banned police officers from coming into his home where he and the younger O’Donnell were hiding for several days as Chelsea’s mother continued the search. Chelsea was found unharmed on Wednesday (Aug. 19).
