Tracy Morgan is back, and not a day too soon. If anyone was worried that maybe he wasn’t ready for his highly anticipated return to host “Saturday Night Live,” Morgan silenced those doubts by posting a photo of himself on Twitter Monday (Oct. 12) with the caption, “My first time on stage in 16 Months at the #ComedyCellar! Picking up the pieces!”
It’s wonderful to see the funny man back in action after surviving a devastating car crash in June 2014, which left the comedian in a coma for eight days, and in a wheelchair for five months. Morgan made his first TV debut with an appearance at the 2015 Emmys, where he presented the award for Best Drama Series. “Thanks to my amazing doctors, the support of my family … I’m here, standing on my own two feet,” Morgan said, following a standing ovation.
His Emmys’ speech was filled with both heartfelt emotion, gratitude, and of course, some off-color jokes, admitting he had finally started to feel like himself, “which means a whole lot of women are going to get pregnant at the after party.”
The “30 Rock” star definitely seems to be getting back to his old self, marrying the woman who stood by his side during the entire rehabilitation process, Megan Wollover, while their 2-year-old daughter looked on. He’s also coming back to host the sketch comedy show that jump-started his comedy career, which seems like the perfect next step.
Catch Morgan’s triumphant return to “SNL” Oct. 17 at 11:30 p.m. ET/PT on NBC.
