Reports of Jerry Maren’s death have been greatly exaggerated. The former “Wizard of Oz” actor is alive and well and not suffering from pancreatic cancer like several reports of his death say.

He is currently the last surviving munchkin from the original “Wizard of Oz” movie, having played one of the Lollypop Guild members in the 1939 film.

After news surfaced Monday (Feb. 29) that Maren had passed away, TMZ spoke to Maren’s friend Steve Cox, who says he spoke with Maren and the 96-year-old actor is “doing just fine.”

According to Cox, Maren no longer makes public appearances, but he lives is Southern California where he is well taken care of by family members. In fact, Cox says that the health scare has no basis in truth and Maren is “about as healthy as can be at 96.”
