The death of a beloved pet can be one of the hardest things, especially when that pet is one you have had since you were a kid.

Actress/singer Zendaya felt this heartache first hand Monday (Oct. 26) when her giant schnauzer named Midnight passed away.

“My baby went to heaven today. Thank you for being one of the most loyal men in my life, for loving me unconditionally and for cuddling me when ever I needed,” writes Zendaya on Instagram. “I don’t know if you ever understood me when I told you but I love you more than you’ll ever know.

“We’ve been together since I was 8 and I’m not really sure how to get use to a house without your cute paws clinking around … but thank you for every second of love you gave us. Give Poppi a kiss for me up there.”

Zendaya’s fans were quick to offer their sympathy and condolences, writing things like, “May your memories warm your heart. You’ll have him with you forever in your heart” and “He’s in heaven now and he will always be looking down on you and he will always love you.”
