Jake the Wolverine? Cyclops Finn? To paraphrase the old Reese’s Peanut Butter cups commercials: When you combine “Adventure Time” with ‘X-Men,’ it’s two great tastes that go great together.
The proof is in the pudding via Katie Goodrich, a talented graphic designer who clearly has a great affinity for both franchises. While it’s unlikely that we’ll see Princess Bubblegum in the upcoming “X-Men: Apocalypse,” it sure is fun to look at Goodrich’s striking visuals and impressive use of color.
What’s particularly cool is the way Goodrich seems to have taken the character’s traits into consideration as she combined them. So, Flame Princess becomes Dark Phoenix, The Ice King is the evil Magneto, and others similarly reveal that the two geek-friendly franchises aren’t as different from one other as you might think.
So, can we look forward to a superheroic crossover in an upcoming “Adventure Time” episode? You might not want to hold your breath on that front — but in the meantime, you’ve certainly got some cool images to help you dream.
“X-Men: Apocalypse” opens in theaters everywhere May 27. “Adventure Time” is also reportedly being turned into a film — but until then, you can catch the show on Cartoon Network.
