agathe von trapp charmian carr Agathe von Trapp, eldest girl of von Trapp family portrayed in 'The Sound of Music,' dies at 97Agathe von Trapp (pictured above left, middle left with her sister Maria), the oldest daughter of the family portrayed in the 1965 blockbuster “The Sound of Music,” has died at the age of 97 of congestive heart failure, reports the Montreal Gazette.

According to the Baltimore Sun, Agathe hadn’t performed with her siblings for several decades and had shied away from the fame the movie brought her family because she never felt the movie was an accurate portrayal.

There were minor inconsistencies, like making Liesl, the character based on Agathe (Charmian Carr, pictured above, right), the oldest child (in reality, Agathe had an older brother). Agathe also did not have a telegram delivery boyfriend who later became a Nazi.

But the dramatization of those aspects did not bother her as much as the portrayal of her father, Capt. von Trapp, whom she always insisted was loving and kind, not cold and distant as he was portrayed for the first half of the film. She also said the family was well versed in music before the arrival of Maria, who was a tutor and not a governess.

To read more about her life and how it compared to “The Sound of Music,” you can read her memoir “Agathe von Trapp: Memories Before and After The Sound of Music.” Agathe is survived by a brother, Johannes von Trapp, and three sisters, Maria, Eleanor and Rosemarie.

RIP, Agathe von Trapp.
