“Bourne Identity,” earned $27.1 million in its opening weekend, topped by follow-ups “The Bourne Supremacy” ($52.5 million in 2004), and “The Bourne Ultimatum” ($69.2 in 2007).

Audiences took a break from the latest Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan news to flock to “The Campaign,” Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis‘ raunchy political comedy, sending it to the No. 2 sport for the weekend with $27.4 million. “The Dark Knight Rises” dropped to third place with $19.5 million and a domestic total of $390.1 million.

Director David Frankel‘s “Hope Springs,” starring Meryl Streep, Tommy Lee Jones and Steve Carell, performed slightly better than expected, with a five-day total of $20 million.
