captain america the first avenger 2 Box Office: 'Captain America: The First Avenger' soars to $65 M opening weekendChris Evans has capped off the superhero summer with “Captain America: The First Avenger” and the studio has to be happy with its opening weekend box office earnings of $65.8 million, according to studio estimates.

“Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2,” though down considerably from its record-breaking opening weekend, still had a strong $48 million dollar sophomore weekend, which should put it over the $275 million mark domestically.

“Friends With Benefits” had a decent opening at $18.5 million, though pre-release estimates had it slightly higher, at $20 million. The similarly-themed rom-com “No Strings Attached” opened to $20.3 million and won its opening weekend, though the competition was nowhere near as stiff.
