i am num four Box Office: 'I Am Number Four' edged out by 'Unknown'Liam Neeson for the win!

Neeson’s new thriller “Unknown” pulled an upset victory this weekend at the box office, grossing an estimated $21.8 million through the first three days of the four-day holiday. It is expected to take in $26 million by the end of the four-day weekend.

The sci-fi drama “I Am Number Four” starring Alex Pettyfer and Dianna Agron was the early favorite to win the box office, but only grossed $19.5 million. Another new release that underperformed was “Big Momma’s: Like Father, Like Son,” which raked in an estimated $17 million and placed fifth.

Disney’s “Gnomeo & Juliet” fared well over the weekend, grossing an estimated $19.4 million and may beat “Number Four” by the end of the four-day period. Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston’s romantic comedy “Just Go With It” took in another $18.2 million and it seems like Bieber fever may have cooled off a bit — “Never Say Never” grossed $13.8 million.

THR reports that the weekend was down as much as 30% from President’s Day weekend a year ago.
