one direction this is us 3 day weekend Box office: 'One Direction: This is Us' wins 3 day weekend, 'The Butler' not far behind

While the 3D concert film “One Direction: This is Us” had a really strong Friday, things weren’t as great Saturday. The movie looks like it’ll win the 3-day weekend with $17 million, but it’s losing ground to “Lee Daniels’ The Butler,” which is still holding on with $14.7 million after making more than “This is Us” on Saturday (September 31). The real fight looks like it’ll happen Monday, with many off work for Labor Day.
Selena Gomez and Ethan Hawke’s “Getaway” continued to not impress, dropping one more spot and landing at number nine, with a $4.5 million weekend. Doing quite a bit better is “Instructions Not Included.” The movie, a product of Mexico, made $7.5 million on only 347 screens around the country. That’s a pretty impressive feat.
The entire Top 10 is below:
1. “One Direction: This is Us” $17,000,000
2. “Lee Daniels’ The Butler” $14,742,000
3. “We’re the Millers” $12,610,000
4. “Planes” $7,756,000
5. “Instructions Not Included” $7,500,000
6. “Elysium” $6,300,000
7. “The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones” $5,200,000
8. “The World’s End” $4,759,000
9. “Getaway” $4,505,000
10. “Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters” $4,425,000
