battle of the year chris brown box office bomb Box office: 'Prisoners' reigns supreme, Chris Brown's 'Battle of the Year' bombs

Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal‘s new feature film “Prisoners” had a solid opening weekend. After bowing with a $7 million opening day, the flick went on to earn a $21.4 million total haul.

Chris Brown and Josh Holloway‘s dance movie “Battle of the Year” was not so lucky. It rounded out the box office’s top five this weekend with a piddling $5 million total haul. Add that to its terrible reviews, and it’s starting off as a total bomb.

Carryovers like “Insidious: Chapter 2” and “The Family” continue to do solid numbers as they head into their second weeks of release. So too does the indie “Instructions Not Included,” which managed to beat out “Battle of the Year” despite being in its fourth week of release. Meanwhile, the 3D/IMAX re-release of “The Wizard of Oz” managed to pull in $3 million for its first weekend out in theaters.
