There was no question as to what would be the box office topper on Friday (Nov. 18). The only real suspense was how much “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1” would make. And now we have the answer.
The vampire flick brought in $73.5 million and is on pace for a weekend haul of nearly $140 million. Deadline is reporting that this is the second-best opening day ever behind the final Harry Potter movie. That film delivered $91 million.
The animated penguin film “Happy Feet Two” opened to a seemingly lack luster $6 million. The sequel has a projected weekend take of $22.5 million. That said, industry experts foresee an uptick for the family film during the upcoming Thanksgiving weekend.
Rounding out the top five was last week’s box office champ “Immortals,” which took in $4 million, “Jack and Jill” at $3.7 million and “Puss In Boots” with $3 million.
