Bradley Cooper is gearing up for another big year thanks to his second David O. Russell movie, “American Hustle.” But on the eve of that flick’s release, let us journey way, way back to a time not so long ago when Cooper was loved best as Will Tippin on “Alias.”

The year was 2001, and Cooper was introduced as Sydney Bristow’s (Jennifer Garner) reporter friend Will. Cooper was already known on the small screen for his roles in “Jack & Bobby” and “Touching Evil.”

Later Cooper would have more memorable roles as Jack Bourdain (yes, a take on Anthony Bourdain) in the short-lived TV series “Kitchen Confidential” and as Aidan Stone in “Nip/Tuck,” but it’s as Will that he was really beloved on the small screen. Just look at that face.

Though Will started as just Sydney’s friend, he soon became her trusted ally as he was drawn into her secret SD-6 life. Thanks to his skills as a reporter, he was a constant asset to her and regularly found himself in danger on her behalf. He’s basically the best friend a girl could ask for if she’s a double agent working in an evil secret organization that’s obsessed with the artifacts of Milo Rambaldi.

Even though Cooper got stuck portraying a jerk in movies like “The Hangover,” “All About Steve” and “Wedding Crashers,” he always had a special place in our hearts thanks to “Alias.” It’s nice to see him getting more respect in projects like “Silver Linings Playbook,” “The Place Beyond The Pines” and “American Hustle,” which opens wide on Dec. 20.

What’s your favorite Bradley Cooper role?
