muppets trailler oct 14 'Breaking Dawn' leads 'The Muppets' at Thanksgiving box office“The Muppets” has gotten off to an OK start at the box office this weekend, but Kermit and Co. haven’t been able to dethrone “Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part 1” from the top spot.

“Breaking Dawn” made an estimated $7.8 million on Thanksgiving, on top of $12.5 million it took in on Wednesday (Nov. 23). It’s likely to pull in somewhere around $55 million for the five-day holiday weekend, which will push its domestic total past the $200 million mark.

“The Muppets,” meanwhile, has made $12.5 million in its first two days, opening with an estimated $6.6 million on Wednesday and following up with $5.9 million Thursday. Pre-weekend forecasts had it making anywhere between $40 million and $50 million from Wednesday to Sunday. It may fall short of that, but considering the movie’s budget was only about $45 million, it’s still poised to do pretty well.

The weekend’s other two wide releases are more of a mixed bag. “Arthur Christmas” earned $2.4 million on Wednesday but fell to $1.9 million on Thursday. It’s looking like the movie will make in the $15 million range by Sunday, below the $20 million box-office pundits were predicting earlier in the week.

Martin Scorsese‘s “Hugo,” meanwhile, is on track to beat its $10 million-$12 million projection. After opening to a little under $1.7 million (in far fewer theaters than either “The Muppets” or “Arthur Christmas”) it improved to $2.35 million on Thursday.

In limited release at 123 theaters, “My Week with Marilyn” — which is generating serious Oscar talk for star Michelle Williams — has made $311,000 over its first two days.
