magic mike the musical Channing Tatum confirms 'Magic Mike, The Musical' heading to Broadway

If you, like the rest of America, enjoyed watching Channing Tatum, Alex Pettyfer, Matthew McConaughey, Joe Mangianello, and Matt Bomer show off their bodies dance moves in the uber-successful 2012 smash hit “Magic Mike,” but you thought the movie lacked a certain something — like, say, singing? — then you are in luck. “Magic Mike, The Musical” is officially heading to Broadway.

Tatum confirmed the news in a tweet on Monday (July 22), along with the announcement that the creative team is in place to begin transforming the drama into a Broadway musical.

So who is taking on the overwhelming task of bringing America’s favorite male-stripper movie to the Great White Way? “Next to Normal’s” Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey will write the songs and “Glee” writer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa will write the book, Deadline reports. While Tatum is officially set as one of the show’s producers, there is no word yet on whether or not the star will be making his Broadway debut in the show. The other producers are Steven Soderbergh (who directed the movie version), Reid Carolin, Gregory Jacobs, and Nick Wechsler.

And hey, if musicals aren’t your thing, at least you’ll still have the upcoming “Magic Mike” movie sequel — currently in the planning stages — to keep you going.
