Christian Bale has already made his stamp on the character of Batman thanks to his leading role in Christopher Nolan‘s “The Dark Knight Trilogy.” Though Ben Affleck will take up the cape and cowl in the upcoming “Man of Steel” sequel, it’s still Bale’s iconic performance as the Dark Knight that has made the most recent stamp on pop culture.

Warner Bros. is releasing “The Dark Knight Trilogy: Ultimate Collector’s Edition” on Blu-ray on Sept. 24, but in anticipation of that release, Bale’s screen test for the part of Batman has made its way online. In the video, Amy Adams can be heard reading opposite him while Bale wears Val Kilmer‘s Batman suit. All in all, it’s pretty awesome.

“The testing on this kind of performance, this kind of character here, it’s not about acting ability or chemistry or any of those things. It’s about being able to project this extraordinary iconography from the inside. It’s visual iconography. Christian somehow figured this out before the screen test,” Nolan gushes of his star. “I think Christian’s voice was a large part of the impression he made on the test. He had decided that Batman needed to have a different voice that Bruce Wayne; that he needed to put on a voice.”
