“Flight” raked in $25 million during its opening weekend, but some booze companies are not happy about the free product placement they got in the Denzel Washington film.
The AP reports Anheuser-Busch, whose beer, Budweiser is featured prominently throughout the film — including a scene where Denzel’s character is drinking behind the wheel — has asked Paramount Pictures to remove the Budweiser logo.
Budweiser issued the following statement to the Associated Press:
“We would never condone the misuse of our products, and have a long history of promoting responsible drinking and preventing drunk driving. We have asked the studio to obscure the Budweiser trademark in current digital copies of the movie and on all subsequent adaptations of the film, including DVD, On Demand, streaming and additional prints not yet distributed to theaters.”
A Stolichnaya rep says the company also does not approve of their brand’s portrayal in “Flight,” and would not have given permission for product inclusion if asked.
