Peter Dinklage, an actor best known for his role as Tyrion Lannister on “Game of Thrones,” is going to be making his big comic book movie debut in the upcoming flick “X-Men: Days of Future Past.” His character, Bolivar Trask, is frequently described as the movie’s central villain, but Dinklage defends the scientist who creates The Sentinels in a new interview.

“I didn’t want to play the villain,” Dinklage tells Entertainment Weekly. “He’s a man of science. He’s a man of invention. He actually sees what he’s doing as a good thing — [his ambition is] definitely blind and he’s quite arrogant. He’s strove all his life for a certain respect and attention.”

That sounds like Dinklage is doing a good job of getting inside Trask’s head, but it’s not necessarily a convincing argument for why The Sentinel’s creator isn’t actually a bad guy. Hopefully Dinklage plays Trask with as much empathy in “Days of Future Past” as he describes him in this interview.

“X-Men: Days of Future Past” comes out on May 23, 2014. “Game of Thrones” returns to HBO with Season 4 in Spring 2014.
