The Golden Globes may be known as “Oscar’s ugly inebriated stepsister,” but the 73rd annual awards ceremony is also famously known as the most fun event where stars get to drink and eat while sitting at tables with their co-stars and dates throughout the evening.
Comedian, Ricky Gervais, returned to host for the 4th time and stood at the dais for his opening speech with a signature beer in hand — based on watching his red carpet pre-show interviews, it was at least his 5th or 6th drink of the night.
Taking a sip, Gervais set the tone for an evening that had some wonderfully best and some terribly awkward worst moments throughout the three hour affair.
Best: Rachel Bloom wins for ‘Crazy Ex-Girlfriend’
"Crazy Ex-Girlfriend" is one of the best things to happen to TV this past year and even if the ratings don't support that statement, hopefully this win for Bloom -- who writes, produces, and stars in the CW show -- will create an uptick in viewers for the hilarious musical comedy.
Worst: Jamie Foxx's stale joke and Quentin Tarantino's 'ghetto' speech
The world did not need one more Steve Harvey Miss Universe flub joke, and yet, when Jamie Foxx took to the stage to present Best Original Score from a movie, the actor just couldn't help himself.
And then, as "The Hateful Eight" director, Quentin Tarantino, accepted the award on behalf of composer, Ennio Morricone, he calls movie composers, "ghetto," in an effort to express his feelings that Morricone is a "real" composer.
Worst: Channing Tatum introduces Jonah Hill as the bear from 'The Revenant'
There were numerous jokes that didn't work out real well (Still looking at you, Jamie Foxx), but maybe expectations were higher for the "21 Jump Street" co-stars. Tatum, trying to garner a round of applause for the bear from "The Revenant," for which Hill attempted to dress up as with a cheap hat. Once he thanks his co-star, "Leonard," aka fellow "Wall Street" co-star, Leonardo DiCaprio ... well, it all just fell flat.
Best: Jim Carrey presenting the award for Best Picture – Musical or Comedy
The first genuine laugh-out-loud moment of the night came when two-time Golden Globe winner, Jim Carrey, gave out the award for Best Picture - Musical of Comedy to "The Martian." Lamenting on his dreams for a coveted third Golden Globe, the comedian hilariously put into perspective just how "truly important" Hollywood and its awards are in the universe.
And somehow, his Steve Harvey gag was actually funny.
Best: Kevin Hart and Ken Jeong know how to take joke
No one is safe when Rickey Gervais is at the dais, and when he shot out a low blow to actors Kevin Hart and Ken Jeong about their short stature, the two comedians couldn't help but laugh as they walked on stage to present the next award. It's always nice to see people who are used to dishing out jokes, take them, as well.
Worst: Leonardo DiCaprio gives Lady Gaga the stank eye
Sure, Leonardo DiCaprio finally won a Best Actor award for "The Revenant" but what went viral was the look of absolute disgust that he gave to Lady Gaga as she made her way towards the stage to accept her award. No one knows what was making him laugh so hard beforehand or what he has against the songstress -- if anything -- but the actor might want to work on controlling his facial expressions during a live event.
