green hornet box office 'Green Hornet' stings movie goers for $34 million to win weekend“The Green Hornet” grossed approximately $34 million over the weekend, which makes it one of the highest openings ever for the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend, second only to “Cloverfield” in 2008 that brought in $46 million. Estimates have “Hornet” grossing roughly $40.5 through Monday.

The Kevin JamesVince Vaughn comedy “The Dilemma” took second with a soft $17.4 million, putting it on pace for a $20 million four-day total. “True Grit’s” $11.1 million was good for third place. The Western is estimated to have a box office total of $128.5 million through Monday.

“The King’s Speech” finished in fourth place after its nationwide expansion with $9.1 million, bringing its total to $44.6. “Black Swan” also had a good showing at $8.1 million, bringing its total to $72.8. Both movies are expected to take home some awards at the 68th annual Golden Globes, airing live Sunday night (Jan. 16) on NBC.
