harrison ford star wars han solo 2012 gi Harrison Ford back as Han Solo in 'Star Wars 7': He's 'open' to the ideaIf the idea of seeing Harrison Ford back as Han Solo sounds like a pipe dream, just consider how silly the idea of “Star Wars 7” sounded… before last week.

Now that Disney’s purchase of Lucasfilm has reignited “Star Wars” mania in a major way with the surprise announcement that a new installment is in the works, we’ve only seen the beginning of the endless speculation about who will write, direct and star in the series’ revival. Just today, rumors were circulating that “X-Men: First Class” director Matthew Vaughn might be involved.

Entertainment Weekly shows up that scoop by advancing the fanboy fantasy that the new film could include the return of Luke, Leia and Han. EW’s very long, very speculative article  basically boils down to a single quote from a “high placed source”: “Harrison is open to the idea of doing the movie and he’s upbeat about it, all three of them are.” (The number “three” of course refers to Ford and fellow original trilogy stars Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill, who both knew about the sequel plans before the rest of the world.)

For all we know this source is George Lucas himself, but an enthusiastic anonymous quote doesn’t mean anything until there’s a script, director, start date, etc. etc. So don’t hold your breath (because that’s insane), and instead consider for a moment whether or not we even want to see the original actors back in those roles.

If you think the idea sounds foolproof, we’ve got nine words for you: “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.”
