drive trailer Independent Spirit Award 2012 nominees: 'The Descendents,' 'Take Shelter,' 'The Artist' get nodsHold on to your hats because awards season is officially underway. “Take Shelter” and “The Artist” lead the field, according to The Wrap, with 5 nominations each. Though “Beginners,” “Drive,” “The Descendents” and “Martha Marcy May Marlene” all followed closely behind with four nominations apiece.

On Tuesday (Nov. 29), nominations were announced by actors Anthony Mackie and Kate Beckinsale. In contention for best feature: “50/50,” “The Descendants,” “Beginners,” “Drive,” “Take Shelter” and “The Artist.” At least two of the movies — “The Descendents” and “The Artist” — are considered likely Oscar contenders, too.

Actors scoring noms for lead roles include Michelle Williams (“My Week with Marilyn,” Elizabeth Olsen (“Martha Marcy May Marlene”), Ryan Gosling (“Drive”) and Woody Harrelson (“Rampart”).
