While most trailers — especially for kids movies — like to move fast to share as many teases as possible, the new trailer for “Zootopia” takes a very different route: It’s slow. Sloth slow.
This scene premiered at Disney’s D23 Expo in August and received huge laughs from the audience. Based on this and other footage we’ve seen, we’re expecting lots of animal stereotypes to carry the film’s sense of humor.
The beauty of this scene is that the sloths in “Zootopia” are running the DMV, a place that is known in the real world for its slow-moving employees (no offense, DMV employees). Adding to the hilarity of this scene is that a fast-moving bunny is trying to get some work done, and the sloth she has to work with is named Flash.
Expect this trailer to run in front of Pixar’s “The Good Dinosaur” which opens in theaters this weekend (Nov. 27).
“The modern mammal metropolis of Zootopia is a city like no other. Comprised of habitat neighborhoods like ritzy Sahara Square and frigid Tundratown, it’s a melting pot where animals from every environment live together — a place where no matter what you are, from the biggest elephant to the smallest shrew, you can be anything. But when rookie Officer Judy Hopps [voice of Ginnifer Goodwin] arrives, she discovers that being the first bunny on a police force of big, tough animals isn’t so easy. Determined to prove herself, she jumps at the opportunity to crack a case, even if it means partnering with a fast-talking, scam-artist fox, Nick Wilde [voice of Jason Bateman], to solve the mystery,” reads a synopsis from Disney.
Zootopia opens in theaters March 4, 2016 and stars Ginnifer Goodwin and Jason Bateman voicing the lead roles.
