jj abrams star wars gi Is J.J. Abrams backing out of directing 'Star Wars: Episode VII'?

All has been quiet on the “Star Wars: Episode VII” front for a while now, so when a report was released claiming that director J.J. Abrams might be considering — or at least threatening — to drop out of the project, many jumped to take the rumor as fact. In fact, so many subsequent articles came out misinterpreting the report as an actuality that Lucasfilm stepped forward to set the record straight.

Long story short: Abrams isn’t dropping out of “Star Wars.” Sure, there’s been no casting on the film yet and, yes, we haven’t heard much about the movie for months, though that’s allegedly only because Abrams and Michael Arndt are busy working on the script. The flick is slated to be released in Summer 2015, and thus far Abrams still seems to be on track to make that happen for Disney.

“There is no truth to the rumor,” Lucasfilm says in the statement. “J.J. is having a great time working on the script and is looking forward to going into production next year.”

Back in June, Abrams gave some hints on the approach he plans to take with the movie. “I think the key in moving forward with something like this is in honoring but not revering what came before,” he said at the time.

As for Abrams’ rumored return to “Star Trek 3,” producer Roberto Orci tells Zap2it that he hasn’t heard anything yet. “I’d love to have J.J. back. We’re still talking to Paramount about what the scheduling might be and if we can all do it together again,” he says.
