frankenstein It's alive! 'Frankenstein' gets another film adaptationVampires and zombies are so 2011. 2012 (or 2013, depending on how fast things move) will be all about another kind of undead — Dr. Victor Frankenstein’s re-animated hodge-podge of a monster.

Director Shawn Levy has been attached to direct the new adaptation of “Frankenstein,” Mary Shelley’s classic novel about a mad scientist who stitches together body parts from various cadavers and gives life to a somewhat emo monster. But, according to Variety, the script — penned by Max Landis — will focus on themes of “friendship and redemption,” though we’re sure Fox will want a healthy dose of gutsy sci-fi scenes added to the mix.

Clearly, the American appetite for the supernatural isn’t expected to dry up anytime soon since at least six other adaptations based on “Frankenstein” are in various stages of development around Hollywood.

The first film version of “Frankenstein” debuted in 1931 with Hollywood horror staple Boris Karloff playing the Monster.
