scary cabin in the woods Joss Whedon says 'The Cabin in the Woods' secrets made it hard to market“The Cabin in the Woods” is a much-buzzed about horror movie opening this coming weekend. It sprung from the mind of Joss Whedon (“Buffy,” “Angel,” “Firefly”) and Drew Goddard (“Lost,” “Alias”) and looks pretty awesome, despite the marketing campaign having a hard time with it.

“[Lionsgate] took it knowing this was going to be the hardest film they have got
to market because the best way for people to see it is not knowing
anything. That’s a hard way to get people into theaters,” Whedon tells USA Today.

And when asked about a certain scene that horror fans are sure to love, Whedon whispers, “We’re not going to talk about that, because that’s a secret.”

So much mystery!

One of the unique casting choices was Bradley Whitford, best known for playing Deputy Chief of Staff Josh Lyman on “The West Wing.” He admits to not being much of a horror guy, but he took the role because of his love for Whedon’s work.

“I love Joss and I am very interested in (his) brilliant, entertaining, hilarious, perverse, astute vision thing,” says Whitford.

Co-star Richard Jenkins echoes those sentiments, “They wrote this unbelievably complicated story. As good as the script is, the movie is better.”

Whedon does tease that the movie is not short on scares. “It was fun to really step into the hard horror that (made us) cover our eyes with glee as children.”

We are practically salivating at the prospect. Will you be checking out “Cabin in the Woods”? It opens nationwide on Friday, April 13.
