Got a half million dollars lying around, just waiting for a piece of movie history? You may be in luck.
The white blouse and blue gingham pinafore outfit that Judy Garland wore as Dorothy Gale in the much-loved 1939 movie “The Wizard of Oz” is going up for auction next month. There were several versions of the dress made for the movie production, but this version is the only one seen in the actual film and the only complete original dress to survive, reports the AP.
Auctioneer Darren Julien is running the event at Julien’s Auctions in Beverly Hills, Calif. The dress will be on display from Nov. 5-9, prior to the auction on Nov. 9-10. The dress is expected to go for up to $500,000.
The last of four pairs of screen-worn ruby slippers went up for auction in December 2011, but did not sell for the minimum price of $2 million. Instead, benefactors (including Leonardo DiCaprio) made it possible for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to acquire the pair for an undisclosed price for their proposed museum.
