Chris Hemsworth plays Thor in the movies — but in the eyes of his parents, he’s just as much of a superhero in real life. And as his proud little brother is revealing in a teary-eyed new interview, the star recently vanquished the most evil of foes: Debt.
Speaking with The Independent, “Hunger Games” series star Liam Hemsworth says that Chris recently surprised their parents by paying off all their debts.
One day, he says, the “Thor” actor called up their father and told him to take a look at their bank account — what he discovered was enough money to pay off all the debts they had acquired throughout their lives.
“[Our dad] called my brother Chris back and said: ‘I don’t know how to feel. Since I left home I have had debts and I thought I’d be paying them off until I died and have this weight hanging over me, and now to have them completely cleared’,” Liam explains. “They are so happy now, and able to spend more time with us. I would love to be able to do something for my parents like that.”
During their spare time not raising msucle-bound beefcake children, the Hemsworth parents were advocates for traumatized children. Now that the two brothers are movie stars, they are continuing such efforts with their support of the Australian Childhood Foundation, and clearly it was important to Chris that his parents’ selfless acts were rewarded.
