johnny depp penelope cruz jerry bruckheimer may 2011 gi 'Pirates of the Caribbean' success 'pretty exciting' for producer Jerry BruckheimerJerry Bruckheimer is starting his summer in a very nice way.

On Tuesday (June 21), the veteran movie and television producer saw his “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” sail onto the list of 10 highest-grossing films worldwide of all time. As other hits from “Top Gun” to “National Treasure” have proven, Bruckheimer isn’t one to rest on his laurels, but he’s savoring the moment.

“Three of our ‘Pirates’ movies are in the Top 10 of all time now, and it’s pretty exciting,” he tells Zap2it, adding that “Pirates 5” already is well in the works. “We’ve got a draft and we’re working on it, so we’ll hopefully get something that Disney will want to make and Johnny [Depp] will want to be in. That’s always the hardest part, to convince other people to make them. We’ve been quite fortunate to get four made.”

Bruckheimer also continues to fare well on the television front. CBS has renewed all three of his “CSI” series for next season, and with Bertram Van Munster — also his producing partner on CBS’ ongoing, Emmy-winning “The Amazing Race” — he’s making the ABC competition series “Take the Money and Run,” which premieres Tuesday, Aug. 2.

“We’re very fortunate that they still have wide audiences,” Bruckheimer says of the “CSI” shows, “and that CBS is still excited about putting them on the air.” The parent “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation” will return this fall with a new male lead, since Laurence Fishburne is leaving after more than two seasons.

“We’re kicking around a whole bunch of ideas,” Bruckheimer reports of the recasting. “Hopefully, we’ll come up with somebody who will keep the show on for quite a bit longer.”

As someone with such solid track records in both the big-screen and home-screen worlds, Bruckheimer considers himself “very lucky to have had success in both mediums. It’s really a tribute to the people who work with us at our company, and also to CBS and Disney, who have supported us over the years and have been such big parts of our success.”
