charlie hunnam kurt sutter fifty shaed of grey gi 'Sons of Anarchy': Kurt Sutter helped Charlie Hunnam choose 'Fifty Shades of Grey' role

Charlie Hunnam nearly turned down the lead role in “Fifty Shades of Grey,” according to “Sons of Anarchy” executive producer Kurt Sutter
“He struggled with it because obviously there’s a lot of noise around that role,” Sutter tells Vulture of Hunnam. “We had a couple long creative conversations about what the role was, what it meant.”
Sutter says there are “a lot of predetermined expectations” for the role of Christian Grey. He adds that Hunnam’s ultimate decision was not based on the money or notoriety that are sure to come with a starring role in such a heavily buzzed-about film.
“At the end of the day, my advice to him was: Look at the material. Don’t look at the history. Don’t look at where it potentially could be going,” says Sutter. “Look at the material and look at the people you’re working with. If it makes sense, then move forward. I think that’s what he did. It was a very thoughtful process, I think based on all the right decisions.”
Author E.L. James announced in September Hunnam would the fill the role sought by many Hollywood actors in the film adaption of her worldwide best-selling erotic fiction novel.
Hunnam is best known for playing “SOA’s” bad boy biker Jax, and was recently seen in the Guillermo del Toro directed “Pacifc Rim.”
“Fifty Shades” will hit theaters in August 2014, and feature Hunnam’s kinky Christian playing opposite Dakota Johnson‘s virginal Anastasia Steele.
At the “Sons of Anarchy” Season 6 premiere, Hunnam’s castmates told Zap2it what they thought their beloved Charlie did to win the role. Check out the video here.
