The first full trailer for “Star Trek Into Darkness” does something a little different: Instead of just rehashing and expanding on the teaser released a couple weeks ago, it builds its own story.
That’s not to say that it reveals much of the movie’s actual plot. We see a lot of quick bursts of action and closeups of Kirk (Chris Pine), Spock (Zachary Quinto), bad guy Benedict Cumberbatch and other members of the Enterprise crew, but not much exposition.
A few intriguing things, though, pop up in this trailer that weren’t in the teaser. First is the voice-over by Bruce Greenwood‘s Christopher Pike, addressing Kirk and telling him he’s too cocky for his own good and “you’re gonna get yourself and everyone under your command killed.”
At the end of the trailer, Spock reaches out for someone’s (Kirk’s, maybe, a la the end of “The Wrath of Khan”?) hand through glass as Cumberbatch says in voice-over, “Is there anything you would not do for your family?”
So, yeah: Color us intrigued. “Star Trek Into Darkness” opens May 17.
