“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” is still over a month away, but the marketing is whipping up a frenzy of new information. After nearly a year of staying silent, finally JJ Abrams and the rest of the crew behind the film have started an all-out marketing blitz that now includes more TV spots.
The above trailer emphasizes the action and adventure in the new film and is filled with almost a dozen different explosions and high-powered ships sailing through space. Looks like both a large stone building and one of the heroes’ ships will explode in some dramatic new footage that hasn’t been featured in a trailer before.
The clips also show Chewbacca and Han Solo surrendering at some point in the film — though the characters’ look of awe at something offscreen suggests that they won’t be in danger for long.
There’s also this new featurette from The Disney Channel that gives a little more background about “The Force Awakens” story.
Even though the feature mostly confirms what was already suggested by the other trailers, like Rey (Daisy Ridley) and Finn (John Boyega) picking up where Han, Leia and Luke left off as the young heroes of the film, there are also a few new shots, mostly showing Finn and Rey working together, along with a glimpse of Oscar Isaac’s Poe Dameron lit by what looks like either campfire, or some kind of wreckage.
It also offers a new look at Domhnall Gleeson as General Hux, who has hardly been seen so far in the released fotage. Though what’s in the trailer doesn’t give much away, anyone who’s seen the original trilogy knows that bad guys dressed all in black often shout “Fire!” as they shoot at the heroes.
“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” will be in theaters on Dec. 18, 2015.
