With Comic-Con kicking off in San Diego Thursday (July 21), Hollywood’s biggest geek-friendly movies are competing for the world’s eyeballs. Of course, no film is as anticipated by superhero fans as “Suicide Squad,” and fans will not be disappointed by a new “extended look” clip that gives the best chance yet to behold The Joker’s (Jared Leto) evil plan.
“Blah, blah, blah,” Leto’s transformative appearance begins in the clip, seemingly interrogating someone while brandishing his neon green hair and braces-capped teeth. “All that chit-chat is going to get you hurt.”
Keeping with that theme, the rest of the clip is heavy on big action, “Bohemian Rhapsody” and slick editing — and light on the chit-chat. Depicting the character, one graphic uses the adjective “total megalomaniac” and lists his favorite joke as Batman.
While some of the shots are recycled from earlier trailers, the Joker-centric focus is sure to be welcomed by fans of what might just be the greatest comic book villain of all time (sorry, Asbestos Lady), and it’s intriguing to see how Oscar-winner Leto is kicking him up another demented notch.
Throwing down with Batman, leaping off buildings and generally inciting anarchy everywhere he goes, Leto’s vision seems to be on-target. “Suicide Squad” hits theaters Aug. 5.
