Even though summer is just beginning and we won’t see “Suicide Squad” until August, in many ways it already feels like the battle of summer tentpoles is securely in the pocket of the eagerly-anticipated bad-guys-do-good blockbuster. Advance buzz is strong, the trailers have been amazing, and stars like Will Smith, Margot Robbie and Jared Leto seem on the verge of redefining themselves with edgy, against-type roles.
Now the UK magazine Total Film is here to tease us a bit, giving fans an on-set visit accompanied by photos of Task Force X that make them look cooler than ever.
From Will Smith’s Deadshot to Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn, “Suicide Squad” seems likely to retain the signature characteristics of classic DC characters like Killer Croc and The Joker, while at the same time overcoming the self-serious stiffness of such recent efforts as “Batman v. Superman.”
Directed by “Fury” filmmaker David Ayer, “Squad” is based on a comic book that goes back more than fifty years — but will undoubtedly feel contemporary and edgy on the big screen.
Also starring Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flagg, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, Cara Delevingne as Enchantress and Jay Hernandez as El Diablo, “Suicide Squad” will explode into theaters on August 5.
