The very first official look at the new movie version of “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” has arrived and it answers many of the questions fans of the long-running comic book and TV series had.
From the way the turtles look and their size (which is rather large), to the Shredder’s bladed costume, there is a lot in the quick minute-and-a-half teaser to wet fan’s appetites. There are also clues to exactly what the story will be about.
In this iteration of “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,” a man named Eric Sachs (William Fichtner) worked hand-in-hand with April O’Neil’s (Megan Fox) father to “create heroes.” It sounds like that’s going to be the origin story for the turtles, as the trailer also includes that famous green ooze in a TCRI canister. Were the turtles part of an experiment gone wrong? If so, where does Splinter enter the mix? Sachs will also fill the role of he Shredder for the movie rather than the traditional Oroku Saki.
The movie looks very action-oriented, which shouldn’t be surprising given Michael Bay’s involvement as producer. Still, there’s that humorous tone that is all too common in the “Ninja Turtles” franchise to keep things a bit on the light side. Among the things the trailer doesn’t address is April’s job as a news reporter, which is where Will Arnett enters the picture as her co-worker Vernon Fenwick.
“Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” is in theaters August 8.
