Two more images have been released for “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug,” this time focusing on key characters in the sequel. The stills feature Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) and newcomer to the series Tauriel (Evangeline Lilly).
Lilly’s character does not appear in J.R.R. Tolkien’s novel “The Hobbit,” but was created specifically for the film series by director Peter Jackson and his wife and producing partner Fran Walsh. “Desolation of Smaug” marks her first appearance in the films.
The image of Bilbo looks pretty happy and lighthearted, as dozens of butterflies swarm over his head. A nice little break from the journey he’s on, no doubt.
The images come after two pieces of art, an image of Bilbo and the dwarf company and a poster, were released. “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug” is in theaters December 13.
