the maze runner delayed dylan obrien thomas gi 'The Maze Runner' delayed until September 2014

“The Maze Runner,” a highly anticipated adaptation of the James Dashner young-adult novel, has had its release date delayed by seven months. The dystopian movie, starring “Teen Wolf” star Dylan O’Brien, will hit theaters on Sept. 19, 2014. It had originally been set to open on Feb. 14.

News of the delay came from the film’s director, Wes Ball, via Twitter on Saturday (Oct. 5).

“Good news and bad news y’all. Bad news, you have to wait a bit longer. Good news, the movie and marketing can be the best it can be now.”

Ball followed up a short time later with another tweet

“These things aren’t my choice, but I 100% agree with fox’s decision. Just imagine the cool stuff we can do with a little extra time.”

A final post promised good things in store for fans.

“I’ll do my best to get you guys some cool stuff to see in the mean time.”

Also starring Blake Cooper, Will Poulter, Kaya Scodelario, Aml Ameen and Thomas Brodie-Sangster, “The Maze Runner” is the first book of a trilogy set at some point in the future. Thomas (O’Brien) ends up leading a group of teenagers to freedom after they all wake up in a vast maze with no memory of where they came from or how they got there.
