It’s still more than a month to Halloween, but it appears the American moviegoing public is prepared to be scared already: the creepy, based-on-a-true-story movie “The Possession” is poised to top the box office once again.
The film, about a child who becomes obsessed with a mysterious antique box she finds at a yard sale (turns out the box is possessed with a dybbuk, a dislocated spirit that inhabits its human host), brought in $2.9 million on Friday, Sept. 7 to earn the No. 1 spot.
Coming in second place (again) was “Lawless” with $1.8 million. Bradley Cooper‘s “The Words” was the first new release to land on the chart with $1.6 million. Rounding out the rest of the Top 5 were “The Expendables 2” ($1.3 million) and “The Campaign” ($1 million), per Box Office Mojo.
What will you see this weekend?
