splinter cell movie basil iwanyk Tom Hardy's 'Splinter Cell' movie gains Basil Iwanyk as director

Ubisoft and New Regency have revealed the person who will helm the upcoming adaptation of the video game “Splinter Cell”: longtime producer Basil Iwanyk. This will be Iwanyk’s directorial debut.

Though Iwanyk is new to directing, he’s a veteran of Hollywood. Iwanyk is best known for being a producer behind projects ranging from “K-19: The Widowmaker” and “The Expendables” to “The Town” and “Clash of the Titans.” He’s behind the upcoming movies “Seventh Son” and “Gods of Egypt.” This will be the first video game adaptation Iwanyk is involved in, though he’s worked on projects similar in tone to “Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell” in the past.

Deadline broke the news of Iwanyk’s involvement. Eric Warren Singer is writing the script for “Splinter Cell.” The film will star Tom Hardy as leading man Sam Fisher. The movie does not yet have a release date.
