Vin Diesel Teen Choice Awards

Vin Diesel is the king of keeping franchises alive. The “Furious 7” star took to Instagram to confirm that filming will begin later in 2015 on a third “xXx” movie.

“While I was filming XXX, guys on set called me Air Diesel … The time to return has come. Filming starts December in the Philippines,” he writes in an Instagram post. “#ILiveForThisS***.”

Columbia Pictures released “xXX” in 2002 when Diesel was still on the rise as an action star. The movie grossed a total of $277 million worldwide, and spawned the 2005 sequel “xXx: State of the Union.” Diesel was unable to reprise his role as Xander Cage, so Ice Cube took over as Darius Stone.

News of a third “xXx” movie started in 2008, though it’s been on-and-off since then. In January 2014 Diesel posted on Facebook that a “xXx 3” script was due the following month, and then in July of that year he confirmed the film was still in the works.

“I am going to do the next ‘xXx’ which will be filming in part in the Philippines, which I’m very, very, very excited about,” he told Collider.

In “xXx,” Diesel played an extreme athlete-turned-NSA agent who is coerced into infiltrating a group of Russian terrorists. The DVD release of the film included a four-minute short called “The Final Chapter: The Death of Xander Cage” that seemingly resolved the character had died.

Also in the works according to Diesel is a fourth “Riddick” movie — at least according to what he told his Facebook followers in January 2014.
