Beyonce’s “Lemonade” album dropped over the weekend (April 23), and her boldly vulnerable 6th album seemed to cause the world to pause. Baring her soul in both song and its accompanying music video, Beyonce tears off her veneer of perceived perfection and the facade that she has it all. Instead she sings about being cheated on, along with the awful feelings of shame, self-doubt, and anger that follow.
Speculation of whether or not Jay Z actually cheated, and if so, with whom, was immediate. But it’s important to bring the focus back to the amazing artistry of “Lemonade.” Beyonce gifted the beyhive with 11 new tracks that will make listeners smile, cry, and want to belt out along with her in the car with the windows down. Stand out tracks include “Hold Up,’ in which she brings out her inner country star swagger. With rapper Kendrick Lamar, she tears it up on “Freedom,” and then she goes full Adele with the power ballad, “Sandcastles.”
Zap2it vibed hard on the beautiful poetry weaving throughout the songs and emotional vignettes during “Lemonade,” and we decided that some of these stand-out lyrics deserve to be embroidered on pillows.
Maybe a line of these Beyonce inspired throw cushions can be incorporated with her new athleisure line, Ivy Park.
‘Freedom’ featuring Kendrick Lamar.
Be your own cheerleader. In the song, this line comes off as a mantra. Something Beyonce has to keep repeating to herself until she finally believes it. She knows it’s important find happiness from within, and that it can’t come from anyone else.
‘Don’t Hurt Yourself’
Beyonce does not question if God is a woman. She knows it, and preaches it.
“Forward” featuring James Blake.
Because how sweet would it be to see that message on a pillow every time you come home and enter the bedroom.
“Don’t Hurt Yourself”
Self-empowering and a solid reminder to the man or woman who is lucky enough to be sharing a household with you.
Slay, woman. Laugh all the way to the bank towards those who do you wrong. A perfect pillow for that work couch positioned next to your corner desk with the floor to ceiling windows.
