Kanye West continues the perpetual tease for his new album by dropping two new remixes on SoundCloud Monday (Oct. 19).
The rapper re-recorded “Say You Will” from his 2008 album “808s and Heartbreak” this time featuring Pulitzer Prize-winning violinist and singer Caroline Shaw. She takes over the backing vocals on the new mix that slows down the original bass-heavy track.
The second song, “When I See It,” is a downsized remix of The Weeknd’s “Tell All Your Friends,” which West helped produce. West turns the auto-tune back on for the under two minute jam about California life and driving down the 405.
West hasn’t promoted the tracks himself but Pitchfork confirms that the tracks are legitimate. The last thing West posted on Twitter was his stellar review of JosephGordon-Levitt’s new film, “The Walk.”
While West dropping songs without buildup isn’t strange — he is close friends with Beyonce who perfected the technique — putting them on SoundCloud instead of TIDAL seems like a marketing departure.
The premium music service started by Jay Z in an effort to pay more money to artists for their streaming rights has been where several of Hova’s inner circle have released their latest efforts first, including Beyonce, Rihanna and Nicki Minaj, before going to other outlets like Vevo and YouTube.
As West also just finished the Fashion Week rounds for his new clothing line, the two new remixes could mean that the new album is closer to release than expected.
