Brace yourselves Directioners, for it looks like you’re going to have to spend a year without any new One Direction music, concerts or public appearances.
According to People magazine, the four members of the British boy band One Direction “mutually agreed” to take a one-year hiatus in 2016. Yes, you read that correctly. A source tells the magazine that beginning next March Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson, will take “at least” a year-long break from the band in order to pursue their own projects, which also means there will be no tour in support of their upcoming fifth album.
It’s important to note the fact that this news refers to a break from the band and not a breakup of the band. Yes, this is bummer news for fans always eager for more new music from the former “X-Factor” contestants and those still not over the loss of original member Zayn Malik, but it could also be a good thing in that the aforementioned solo “projects” might lead to solo music from Styles, Horan, Payne or Tomlinson. And while we’re hoping for the best from this gap year, maybe the boys will collaborate with other artists or dabble in acting in TV and film? Only time will tell.
